How can you share your LPA with other organisations?

Business

Since July 2020 the Office of the Public Guardian has allowed donors of LPAs and attorneys appointed under them to share information with organisations.

Remember that you can find information about creating a UK power of attorney online at sites such as https://powerofattorneyonline.co.uk/.

Why would I need to share information from an LPA?

Prior to the introduction of the share an LPA scheme donors or attorneys may have needed to physically attend banks, building societies and GPs with the physical LPA to confirm that the document existed and that attorneys were allowed to act on their behalf. When attorneys lived some distance from the donor this may have proved problematic but this is no longer the case. Furthermore, this new process obviates the need for certified physical copies of the LPA.

What is the Use of an LPA Service?

The Use an LPA Service allows both donors and attorneys to access the relevant LPA online rather than having to use the registered paper example and the service is free.

It lets you access:

. the LPA’s basic details . allow access to limited details to organisations or individuals . Check back to see which people or organisations have used the service to see the LPA . see how others named in the LPA use the service . ask for an activation key to be replaced

Note that the service is only suitable for LPAs registered after the cut-off date of 01/01/2016.

It is also possible that some organisations may still ask to see a certified hard copy of the LPA.
