Tips For Homeschooling

The covid-19 pandemic brought a lot of new concepts and changes into our lives such as self-isolation, face masks, PCR testing, and also homeschooling for parents who otherwise would send their children to school. Homeschooling has always been a choice for parents, at least those who don’t have to work, but the pandemic meant that parents, no matter their circumstances, had to home-school their children. If you are working from home at the same time, this can be a hard task and when you’re tired and worn out, the last thing you want to do is try to home-school you’re not-so-obedient children in their own home. Read on for some tips for homeschooling.

  1. Have a routine and stick to it. It can seem almost impossible to implement new routines in the household, but it is worth a try, as it can make things better for everyone when they work. For homeschooling it can really help with the stress, and so your children know what to expect. In a time where we don’t know if tomorrow we’ll be told to stay in our homes again, it is comforting for children to have some predictability in their life.
  2. Don’t be too hard on yourself or your children. Set your expectations low and prioritise your mental well-being. These unprecedented times, and nothing like this has happened in recent history, so be kind to yourself.

  1. Let your child take the lead. Trust in the natural curiosity that your child possesses. You are more likely to have a productive homeschooling session if your child is excited and wants to learn.
  2. Fortunately, teachers help with homeschooling during the pandemic, and hold lessons online. Show an interest in their homework and help them with it, but apart from that try to make sure that you have a good internet to support their online learning.
