Life is so much easier today than yesterday

Lifestyle

Every generation has the same conversation with their parents that they had from theirs and most grandparents would also say the same thing!  “Life is so much easier today than yesterday”, I’m sure you will have heard that expression, so is it true, is life so much easier in this day and age than in years gone by?  Well, we do have access to all sorts of modern technology, great health care and modern medicine. We can fly to any part of the world we want at a supersonic speed, and we can talk to people in Australia and video chat with family and friends in different countries. Our houses are full of all sorts of time saving gizmos and gadgets to make our busy lives easier.  Simple things too, like having our own personal Electric Meter box, from a company like https://www.meterbox.co.uk/ outside the home instead of hidden in an internal cupboard.  Having easy access to gas and electric metres is something we take for granted these days but in the past these metres have been hidden in cupboards inside the home making it difficult to read and maintain them.

The cost of living in today’s financial climate is higher than ever, the price of food, fuel, gas and electricity is soaring, and more families than ever are having to rely on food banks and handouts from charities and other organisations. In the past, life was much simpler, families grew more of their own fruit and vegetables and bartering was part of daily lives.  If one family had a surplus of cooking apples for example they would trade them for potatoes, or carrots, if you could sew or knit you would make your own clothes or mend the ones you had.

Cooking large batches of food and freezing several portions was commonplace, whereas in today’s modern culture, we live in what has been termed a “Throw Away Society”.  Younger families may not have the old-fashioned skills that their grandparents had, so mending torn clothing or repairing broken machinery isn’t something they can do. We rely on credit cards and borrowing to buy new items for our homes or cars, instead of saving up and paying for things outright.  So, I guess it depends on how you look at things, the older generation think it was harder in their day and the youngsters think their parents had it easier.
